Chicago Local District Council

District Councils are three directly-elected bodies in all 22 police districts, making a total of 66 positions serving 4-year terms. each position holds power over local public safety issues and input in the city-wide Community Commission on Public Safety and Accountability.

This was made possible by the Empowering communities for public safety (ECPS) Coalition formed between the Civilian Police Accountability Council (CPAC) campaign and the Grassroots alliance for police Accountability(GAPA).

District Councils will be elected Tuesday, February 28th, 2023

Work closely with residents, community leaders, business owners, and faith-based centers to establish a new police accountability system, driven by the people.

The more residents who participate, the more influential the Council will be in addressing the root issues of public safety and crime.

Host a monthly community meeting, where residents can amplify their concerns with policing and public safety.

Develop and implement public safety initiatives, restorative justice practices, increase transparency, and community alternatives to policing.

Community input and involvement drive the Local District Council Members’ work and the local police department’s policies & practices.

Nominate individuals to the Commission for Public Safety & Accountability.
